Morgan Neville's documentary about children's TV host Fred Rogers, Won't You Be My Neighbor?, will begin the International Documentary Association's annual curated screening series on September 12th, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet From Stardom) Won't You Be My Neighbor? takes an intimate look at America's favorite neighbor: Mister Fred Rogers. A portrait of a man whom we all think we know, this documentary is an emotional and moving film that takes you BEYOND zip-up cardigans and the land of make-believe, and into the heart of a creative genius, who inspired generations of children with compassion and limitless imagination.
The series is a curated collection of the most acclaimed documentary films of the year. IDA brings both films and the creators to industry insiders and film enthusiasts throughout the fall season.
The lineup includes such films as RBG, a portrait of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Reversing Roe, which looks at the battle over abortion.
IDA executive director Simon Kilmurry said in announcing the line-up, "2018 has been another year for groundbreaking documentary films. We see these films impacting current events both internationally and domestically with filmmakers on the forefront bringing us the stories and the truth to issues that shape the news today."
