Two weeks ago, comedian John Oliver announced his plan to release a children's book to rival Vice President Mike Pence's recent release.
Now Will and Grace creator, Max Mutchnick, has upped the ante by donating copies of the book to every elementary school in Pence's home state of Indiana.
Along with the donation to 1,121 schools in the state came a note from Mutchnik reading:
"I would like to donate this copy of A Day in the Life of MARLON Bundo to your library. After hearing about the book, I brought it home and read it to my twin daughters. It's a poignant story about how love and community can RISE above intolerance.
My grammar school library was something I always remembered as a safe haven. Books allow children to dream and hope, but you know that already. Thanks to libraries and librarians like you, storytelling not only became my passion - it also became my profession. I hope your students enjoy this book as much as my family and I did."
"The Life and Times of MARLON Bundo" is John Oliver's answer to "Marlon Bundo's A Day in the Life of the Vice President", a children's book following the adventures of the Pence family pet rabbit.
In Oliver's telling of the story, MARLON Bundo overcomes adversity when a stink bug tries to keep two boy bunnies from falling in love, a slight at the notoriously anti-LGBT Vice President.
The day of their release, Oliver's book debuted at #1 on the Amazon book charts, while Pence's book followed up in 5th place.
LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER is the only weekly news-oriented comedy series to be presented on Sunday night. Taped in New York a few hours before it debuts on HBO, the show features a mix of Oliver's topical commentary and pre-taped pieces.
In 2017, LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER received four Primetime Emmys®, including Outstanding Variety Talk Series, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series, Outstanding Interactive Program and Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming.
