Solo: A Star Wars Story debuted its first promotional trailer during the SUPER BOWL tonight. Watch the full video!
As previously reported, the first ad for Solo: A Star Wars Story was expected to drop during the Super Bowl. The film had not released any materials previously, and it is set to open on May 25.
Disney did not comment, but it is widely assumed that the film held off on releasing promotional materials until Star Wars: The Last Jedi was done with its run in theaters.
The SUPER BOWL is the most watched television event of the year, so it only makes sense to debut the ad during its broadcast. Other films set to debut ads during the event are Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Dwayne Johnson's upcoming film Skyscraper, and Mission Impossible - Fallen.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is an origin story about Han Solo, starring Alden Ehrenreich in the title role. The film is being produced by Lucasfilm from a screenplay by Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, and will be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The film will be the second Star Wars anthology film, following the 2016 film Rogue One. A stand-alone installment, set prior to the events of the original 1977 film, it explores the adventures of a young Han Solo and Chewbacca, including meeting Lando Calrissian. Ehrenreich stars alongside Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Joonas Suotamo, and Paul Bettany.
