Australian artists and animators Paul Robertson and Ivan Dixon recreated the iconic opening credits from their favorite show using pixel art as a tribute to the longest-running scripted series on television. They uploaded the clip to Youtube and it immediately went viral, receiving more than a million hits in the first two days.
Immediately thereafter they were contacted by producers at THE SIMPSONS who offered them the opportunity to include their piece into an actual episode.
"The pixel-art SIMPSONS animation takes my brain to a paradise of primitive techno-giddiness. I know if I had a tail I would be wagging my butt off," said creator Matt Groening. Executive producer James L. Brooks added, "There's nothing sweeter than when it comes in over the transom." Executive producer Al Jean noted, "This job was already great; now people are doing the work for us. Thanks for 90 brilliant seconds Ivan, Paul and Jeremy."
Below, watch the Couch Gag from Paul Robertson and Ivan Dixon with music by Jeremy Dower.
