Ray Ramano tried his best (but failed!) to keep it together for his farewell to David Letterman on Friday night's LATE SHOW.

During his appearance, the comedian shared that following his 1995 stand-up performance on the CBS late night show, Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants, called him up to discuss the development of a new sitcom, which eventually became Romano's hit series, "Everybody Loves Raymond."

"I'm not here if that doesn't happen," he explained to the audience of that fateful appearance 20 years ago which launched his career and changed his life forever. Watch the emotional clip below!
