Tony-Award winner, James Monroe Iglehart is featured in New York Film Academy movie musical and BWW has a first look below!
Each year, the New York Film Academy produces movie musicals as the culmination to its 2-Year Musical Theatre Conservatory. These films consist of entirely original material (story and music) and are produced by industry professionals who come onboard and create a story and musical platform that is tailored around their 2-Year students.
"These films are unique because they not only provide students with a high quality professional experience within an educational environment, they also represent the only effort of this kind in the world. No other academy is creating original movie musicals of this calibre anywhere." says Mark Olsen, who is the Chair of NYFA's Musical Theatre Program.
"LANDED," written by Emily Kaczmarek, music by Zoe Sarnak and directed by Nathan Brewer, features Broadway's TONY-Award Winner James Monroe Iglehart, who plays a U.S. Customs Agent. In the film, a grad student from South AFRICA (Christopher Lee Viljoen) and an au pair from Sweden (Caroline Pihlwret) embark on parallel journeys as they acclimate to life in New York City.
"I was thrilled when James agreed to play this role. For two years, I had the pleasure of watching him develop the role of The Genie in Disney's ALADDIN, so I knew how generous he would be with our cast and crew. Our day on set with James was a master class in acting, improvisation, and professionalism for our actors." Director Brewer says.
The 30 minute film is scheduled for festival release in Spring 2017.
The New York Film Academy's Movie Musical Highlight Reel can be watched here, which features a series of ongoing original musical films. NYFA's Movie Musical Senior Producer Sean Robinson says "These films have garnered numerous awards and toured festivals world-wide, including premieres at Oscar-qualifying Rhode Island International Film Festival. In addition to Iglehart, previous films have featured Broadway's Kristy Cates, Marissa Rosen, Jim Newman, Alena Watters and others."
