Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt is concerned about other countries infiltrating outdated U.S. government computers, he says in an interview for CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH Charles Osgood to be broadcast April 28, 2013 (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. Get a sneak peek below!
Schmidt tells Rita Braver there's "evidence that China is busy stealing the intellectual property of American firms to help compete with them." He also says there's evidence China may be getting into government computers.
"It's always going to happen," says Schmidt, co-author of the new book, The New Digital Age. "And the best thing to do is strengthen your defenses. I worry about the U.S. government because it's so large and many of its computers are down rev." Asked what he means by "down rev," Schmidt tells Braver, "out of date."
Schmidt also believes people in countries such China or North Korea, which have blocked access to the Internet, will find ways to get online. "Humans are incredibly ingenious," Schmidt says. "But it will take special techniques. These people are hungry for information and empowerment."
Schmidt talks with Braver about what might be ahead in terms of technology and the Internet in an interview included as part of CBS SUNDAY MORNING's annual edition focused on the future.
CBS SUNDAY MORNING is broadcast Sundays (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
