Former NBA player Shaquille O'Neal discussed his career, the future of the NBA, and his new television show in an interview that was broadcast live today, March 5, 2013, on CBS THIS MORNING (7:00 AM - 9:00 AM) on the CBS Television Network. O'Neal told co-hosts Charlie Rose and Norah O'Donnell that Dennis Rodman's trip to North Korea was "a very, very risky move," adding that "certain people should leave diplomacy to diplomats." Check out the video!
Excerpts from the interview are below.
ROSE: Let me talk about three players. First, Dennis Rodman. What do you think of his trip to North Korea?
O'NEAL: I think we as people should understand our roles in life. And I think people--certain people should leave diplomacy to diplomats. It was a very, very risky move, what he did. I'm not a diplomat, but if there's any diplomats watching and you want to make me a diplomat, just give me a call.
ROSE: You're a smart man. Second, Lebron. How good is Lebron? I saw him play against the Knicks on Sunday, they came back from 16 points behind.
O'NEAL: Not only is Lebron a great player, he's a great kid. Everyone knows the story of his mother, she did a beautiful job of raising him. You know, he plays the game in the right way. I had the opportunity to spend I think a year and a half with him. He's a fabulous kid. I got hurt during The Middle of the season, would have liked to won one there with him. But he's a fabulous kid. He's the reason I did the NBA - that the NBA is almost back on track.
