New York City Police Department Commissioner Ray Kelly said the city invests more in counterterrorism than any other city he knows, yet added there were no guarantees that the bombing that happened in Boston wouldn't happen in New York, in an interview broadcast live today, April 16, 2013, on CBS THIS MORNING (7:00-9:00AM) on the CBS Television Network.
"It could be us, no question about it," Kelly told co-hosts Charlie Rose and Gayle King.
"We need cooperation," he added. "We have it now as never before among federal, local and state agencies, but we cannot let our guard down." Kelly was joined by CBS News Senior Correspondent John Miller. Watch the appearance in full below.
Excerpts from the interview are below.
ROSE: Commissioner Kelly, in the aftermath of this, what are your concerns for New York?
KELLY: Obviously we're concerned about a similar type of event - we've had 16 plots against the city since Sept. 11, 2001. In the last six months, we've had five individuals either arrested or convicted for plotting against New York City. So we believe that the threat has remained constant since 9/11.
