About the show:
More than 25 years after forever changing the face of music with the creation of its groundbreaking Grammy(R) and Emmy(R) award-winning "Unplugged" franchise, MTV today announced that it is teaming up with its recently named Best Artist of 2013, Miley Cyrus, (Miley.MTV.com) for one unfiltered and unforgettable evening. Fans will not want to miss this performance as anything can happen when MTV turns over its celebrated "Unplugged" stage to Cyrus, who has delivered two of the most talked about performances in recent years during the 2013 "MTV Video Music Awards" and 2013 "MTV EMA." "Miley Cyrus: MTV Unplugged" will premiere on MTV on Wednesday, January 29 at 9:00pm ET/PT.
The performance will showcase a more intimate side of Cyrus and feature surprise guests for an unexpected re-invention of the songs that have defined her career, including several from her #1 critically acclaimed album, Bangerz. Miley and her fans have always had an intimate and direct connection through her music, personality and no-holds-barred attitude and the Unplugged stage will serve as the perfect platform for her to show viewers what inspires and ignites her music and her passions.
"The Unplugged stage has been home to some of the most iconic performances of all time," said Amy Doyle, EVP of Music and Talent Programming Strategy for MTV. "Miley's vision for the performance is like nothing we've ever seen. I can say that this will easily be one of the most memorable Unplugged performances to date."
Cyrus has dominated both the charts and headlines as of late. Her album, Bangerz, debuted at #1 on both the Billboard Top 200 Chart and Digital Album Chart in the U.S., in addition to hitting #1 on iTunes in more than 70 countries. The album's first two singles, "We Can't Stop," and "Wrecking Ball," topped charts around the world. In addition, she delivered two of the most talked about performances in recent years during the 2013 "MTV Video Music Awards" and 2013 "MTV EMA," and showcased the recording of the album during an original MTV documentary "Miley: The Movement." Next, Cyrus will embark on the highly anticipated Bangerz tour. The 38-city tour will kick off on Valentine's Day (February 14) in Vancouver, BC and visit cities throughout the United States and Canada.
