MTV Staying Alive Foundation and Alma Mei held a successful "MTV Numbers" fundraiser event to fight HIV/AIDS at Wall Miami Beach on August 1st, 2013 . The purpose of this event was to promote the MTV Numbers campaign, created to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS within the young generation, and to raise funds to fight and prevent HIV/AIDS. The fundraiser had a special performance by Latin Singer/Songwriter Manú, music by DJ Mauricio Parra, and was attended by Miami resident-celebrities including Willy Martin, Ambassador of the MTV Numbers Campaign, MAFFiO, 2NyCE, Madai official member of Mr. 305 Inc., Reality TV star White Boy, Domino Saints and Jessi Leon. In attendance was also Bill Roedy, former President of MTV International and Chairman of the Staying Alive Foundation, who has led the brand's global efforts to promote HIV/AIDS education.
Year after year, the MTV Staying Alive Foundation organizes fundraiser events in Miami, and since 2004, the foundation has raised over $500K. The funds are destined either to local charities like the Miami AIDS Walk or distributed as grants to youth-led projects focused on HIV/AIDS prevention. The foundation has given 230 grants in 50 countries, which MTV aims to double over the next four years.
