Moonlight director Barry Jenkins has adapted that's adapted If Beale Street Could Talk from James Baldwin's 1974 novel, according to Entertainment Weekly. It's the story of Tish, a Harlem-born woman who's newly engaged, newly pregnant, and trying to prove the innocence of her imprisoned lover, Fonny.
Jenkins chose August 2nd, the 94th anniversary of Baldwin's birthday, to release the first trailer for the film. "For me, August 2nd has always been a day to pay tribute, so... a teaser of what's to come," Jenkins tweeted.
Jenkins began production last October, with the blessing of the Baldwin Estate. The cast that includes Regina King , Brian Tyree Henry, Colman Domingo, Michael Beach, Pedro Pascal, Ed Skrein, Diego Luna, and Finn Wittrock.
If Beale Street Could Talk opens in theaters on November 30th.
