VIDEO: Bill Maher Urges Viewers to Steer Clear of Celebrity Presidential Candidates

Bill Maher had an important message for his viewers during last night's show: avoid the celebrity candidates for president.

He noted that there may be a temptation, as names get thrown around such as Oprah Winfrey and The Rock.

"But when the prime directive for government," he said, "goes from 'keep us safe' to 'keep us entertained,' that's bread and circuses, end of the EMPIRE stuff."

Maher headlined his first special on the network in 1989 and has starred in ten HBOsolo specials to date. He is also an executive producer of the innovative news magazine show "VICE," which is now in its sixth season on HBO.
