Alex Trebek shared a special video to his fans to update them on his recent medical condition. The quiz show host revealed he will be taking a medical leave from the show following surgery to remove blood clots from his brain after a fall. The 77-year-old promised a speedy return to the show.
"Some of you might have heard by now that during the holiday break, I had a slight medical problem," Trebek shares at the opening of the video. He goes on to explain that he took a fall two months ago which caused subdural hematoma or blood clots on the brain.
He assures his fans, "The prognosis is excellent. And I expect to be back in the studio taping more JEOPARDY! programs very, very soon."
According to Deadline, JEOPARDY's air schedule will not be affected by the medical leave. Trebek is expected to resume taping in mid-January. However, the upcoming College Championship, scheduled to take place now, will instead tape in March and air in April.
