Sony's new raunchy animated comedy SAUSAGE PARTY had a strong opening weekend, bringing in $33.6 million at the box office. The film features music by eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken, who co-wrote the tunes alongside Chris Lennertz. Menken also wrote the movie's opening number, "The Great Beyond," with Glenn Slater.

In an all-new featurette for the film, Menken speaks about composing music for the comedy joking, "Yes, it's my first R-rated film. And I'm amazed we achieved an 'R'!" Watch the featurette below!

Sausage Party, directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, follows the story of a sausage (voice of Seth Rogen) and his other supermarket friends discovering the real truth to their existence upon leaving the grocery store. The film is the first ever R-rated CG animated comedy to be released.

Both Menken and Slater are currently Emmy nominated for their song "A New Season" from ABC's, Galavant. If Alan Menken wins an Emmy, then he would become a member of the elite group who have achieved, the E.G.O.T.! Christopher Lennertz developed a working relationship with Menken because Lennertz scored the weekly comedy Galavant.
