The AMERICAN MASTERS series website has an In Memoriam tribute to award-winning, CBS News and 60 MINUTES correspondent Bob Simon, a Bronx native and Manhattan resident. Watch the video!

In this video outtake from Susan Steinberg's documentary AMERICAN MASTERS -- Don Hewitt: 90 Minutes on 60 MINUTES (1998), Simon reveals how his early travel experiences in Europe and not wanting to serve in the Vietnam War led him to a career in journalism at CBS News: "I always thought I was going to be a professor. I thought academia was for me...my one priority was not to go to Vietnam."

Peabody Award-winning journalist Bob Simon (1941 - 2015) was interviewed for AMERICAN MASTERS - Don Hewitt: 90 Minutes on 60 Minutes, which premiered in May 1998. Simon's entire broadcasting career was with the CBS Network. His reporting began with the Vietnam War in the early 1970s and in 1987 he was named CBS News' chief Middle Eastern correspondent. Simon had been a contributor to 60 MINUTES since 1996.
