Guests at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum got more than they wished for while posing for pictures with the Genie from Aladdin on Broadway. In celebration of April Fools' Day, Disney had their Tony-winning Genie, James Monroe Iglehart, pose as a wax figure of himself at the iconic New York City museum.
As guests stopped for pictures with the supposed wax figure, Iglehart waited for the perfect moment to spring to life, pulling the proverbial magic carpet out from under his fans.
The reactions are priceless, and if Inglehart ever gets tired of Broadway, he's got real career potential as a living statue street performer. Watch the video, courtesy of PEOPLE!
ALADDIN is currently celebrating its second year on Broadway after BECOMING one of the highest grossing shows in town since opening in March 2014. Iglehart recently extended his contract through February 2017, and will rejoin Adam Jacobsas Aladdin, Jonathan Freeman as Jafar, Courtney Reed as Jasmine, Brian Gonzales as Babkak, Clifton Davis as the Sultan and Don Darryl Rivera as Iago, according to the Associated Press.
Meanwhile, a live-action Aladdin prequel is rumored to be in the works at Disney, which will tell the story of how the Genie - famously voiced by Robin Williams in the 1992 animated version - came to become trapped in the lamp, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The magazine also hints that a live-action remake of the original could be forthcoming, although there's no word yet on casting.
Disney's latest live-action reimagining, The Jungle Book, hits theaters April 15.
