Over a year after the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, the U.S. Senate is holding a vote today on whether to confirm Neil Gorsuch as the newest Justice of the Supreme Court.

Senate Democrats intend to band together in a filibuster to prevent Gorsuch's nomination. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that he is prepared to invoke the so-called "nuclear option" to do away with the procedure for Supreme Court nominees.

Neil McGill Gorsuch is a federal appellate judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. On February 1, 2017, President Donald Trump nominated Gorsuch to be an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, to fill the seat left vacant after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia eleven months earlier.
