Union County Performing Arts Center will keep the Halloween spirit going with a screening of the horror classic Nosferatu with live organ accompaniment tonight, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. at UCPAC's Mainstage.
Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (translated as Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror; or simply Nosferatu) is a 1922 German Expressionist horror film, directed by F. W. Murnau, starring Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok. The film, shot in 1921 and released in 1922, was an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula, with names and other details changed because the studio could not obtain the rights to the novel. Stoker's heirs sued over the adaptation, and a COURT ruling ordered that all copies of the film be destroyed. However, one print of Nosferatu survived, and Nosferatu has come to be regarded as an influential masterpiece of cinema.
UCPAC's screening will feature keyboard master BERNIE Anderson, Jr. on the theater's original 1928 Wurlitzer organ. The seven-rank, 500-pipe organ enjoys international renown as the "Biggest Little Wurlitzer" because of its enormous sound. Come enjoy this rare opportunity to see a classic silent film in a beautifully restored motion picture palace.
Tickets are only $10 and are available by calling the box office at 732-499-8226 or visiting the website at www.ucpac.org. UCPAC's Mainstage is located at 1601 Irving Street in the heart of Rahway's Arts District and easily accessible to major roads and public transportation.
