Jackie Carpenter never dreamed she would be an author, let alone have a movie made about anything in her life. She had always thought of herself as a typical wife, mother and businesswoman with a fairly idyllic life. That all changed in 2008 during one of those dreaded 'middle-of-the-night' phone calls that came from her daughter-in-law. Jackie had no way of knowing how that phone call would plunge her into the hellish journey ahead and a battle to bring her family through every parent's worst nightmare.
A Cry for Justice (Triple Horse Studios) is the award-winning movie, based on Jackie's two books, that tells the true story of what her family endured after her son was arrested for murder.
Jackie's son had been plagued by copper thefts at his work site and, on the advice of a local policeman, had armed himself and hid on the property to catch the thieves. They showed up that night as they had many other nights and while her son held them at gunpoint, waiting for the police to arrive, the gun accidentally discharged killing one of the thieves. Jackie's son was arrested and jailed for felony murder.
With a prosecutor who was hell-bent on getting a life sentence for her son, Jackie had never had her strength so challenged or her faith so tested as it would be in the months ahead. All she knew was that her world was spinning out of control and she didn't know how she was going to get her family through this ordeal.
Inspired by her two books, The Bridge: Between Cell Block A and a Miracle is Psalm 91 and Georgia Justice: A Journey to Faith that tell her passionate story, the movie covers the months leading up to the trial and the white-knuckle suspense as the courtroom drama unfolds, showing how Jackie found the strength and faith needed to hold her family together up to the spine-chilling day the jury reached their verdict!
While Jackie was recently nominated to the category of "People to Watch 2013" at the first-ever Annual Georgia Entertainment Gala, the movie has already won several awards, including one for best screenplay. Filled with suspense, and with great stars playing the key roles, it's no wonder it has become such an instant hit. Jackie is played by award-winning actress Francine Locke (of True Tale Monsters fame), and Jason is played by Drew Matthews who recently played in Vampire Diaries. Darrel Ervin plays the role of Jackie's supportive husband.
