Yesterday, BWW reported that Will Smith is currently in talks to star in Disney's live-action remake of its 1941 animated classic, DUMBO. Now, Variety reports that Tom Hanks has been offered the role of the villain in the Tim Burton-directed project. No details have been revealed on the evil character.

According to the trade, Hanks would play the central Dumbo villain. There's no word yet, however, as to exactly what that character might be and the same report hints that a potential conflict may prevent Hanks from taking the role.

The new version of the animated classic will blend CGI and live action, will feature a screenplay by Ehren Kruger.

DUMBO premiered in 1941 and marked the fourth Disney animated feature film. It is based upon the storyline written by Helen Aberson and illustrated by Harold Pearl. In the story, the title character is ridiculed for his big ears, but in fact he is capable of flying by using his ears as wings.

Two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks will next be seen on the big screen opposite Emma Watson in James Pondsoldt's The Circle. The Dave Eggers adaptation will hit theaters on April 28.
