Tina Fey Insists: No MEAN GIRLS Sequel

Despite teasing about a possible MEAN GIRLS sequel with Lindsay Lohan on a recent appearance on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show, Tina Fey insists that the project will not be happening.

"We did that bit with Jimmy, and I said to her, 'Oh, I think someone may call us about doing some kind of reunion because next month is the tenth anniversary of the movie,' " the 30 Rock star revealed to Access Hollywood this week. "And so really... if everyone's around we might try to do some kind of like panel discussion. But it's not like - it's not another movie. At most it would be like a panel discussion with a plate of hot wings.

The Emmy winner went on to insist, "No, it's definitely not a movie. It's just the anniversary is coming up, so everybody get your pink shirts. It's been 10 years. You can tell when you look at me. It's been 10 years."

Fey told Extra a similar story, commenting, "We're going to see if there's any way to get everyone together, but not a movie, sadly. We're all past High School age."

The 2004 teen comedy film was directed by Mark Waters with a screenplay written by Tina Fey and is based in part on the non-fiction book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman, which describes how female High School social cliques operate and the effect they can have on girls.

The film starred Lindsay Lohan and features a supporting cast of Tina Fey, Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried (in her film debut), and Lizzy Caplan. The film was produced by Saturday Night Live (SNL) creator Lorne Michaels. Screenwriter and co-star of the film, Tina Fey, was a long-term cast member and writer forSNL. The film also features appearances from SNL cast members Tim Meadows, Ana Gasteyer, and Amy Poehler. This film marks Lohan's second collaboration with director Mark Waters, the first one being Freaky Friday (2003).

The film was a box office success, grossing $129,042,871 worldwide. The film has since developed a large cult following with a possible musical stage version on the way.
