The next STAR TREK film could be coming sooner than previously expected.
On NBC's TODAY this morning, Spock himself, Zachary Quinto, hinted that the third film in the franchise is moving along quickly.
"I think it's on the horizon," he said. "Things are rumbling, so I have a feeling that we will be in production sometime in the next six months."
J.J. Abrams announced last September that he would not be helming the third installment, passing the reins to 'INTO DARKNESS' co-writer Roberto Orci. Abrams is currently at work on STAR WARS: EPISODE VII for Dsiney.
Written by Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof, the second film followed the crew of the Enterprise as a shocking act of terror on Earth sends them on a manhunt to capture an unstoppable force of destruction and bring those responsible to justice. STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS featured an ensemble cast including John Cho, Benedict Cumberbatch, Alice Eve, Bruce Greenwood, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Peter Weller and Anton Yelchin.
Quinto rose to prominence for his role as series antagonist Sylar in the Science fiction drama Heroes from 2006 to 2010. He is also known for his portrayal of Spock in the 2009 reboot Star Trek and its 2013 sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness and has appeared in smaller roles on television series such as So NoTORIous, American Horror Story and 24.
In 2013, Quinto played the role of Tom Wingfield in the American Repertory Theatre's production of The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, which went on to Broadway.
