Thieves Return Lupita Nyong'o's $150,000 Dress

In a bizarre turn of events, actress Lupita Nyong'o's reportedly stolen dress, which she wore to the Academy Awards on Sunday, was returned to her hotel room at The London West Hollywood in a garment bag. It appears to have been regected by the thieves, who no longer want it.

"A guy called us at around 2:30 p.m. Friday and said he had taken the dress from Lupita's hotel room after he noticed the door was ajar," TMZ reports. "They He said he and others took 2 pearls off of the dress and took them to the garment district in downtown L.A. ... Where they were told they weren't real. The thief says he decided to take the dress back to the London in a garment bag that was inside a trash bag that he deposited in a 2nd floor bathroom adjacent to a fitness center.".

According to law enforcement sources the dress was taken out of the Oscar winner's room at The London West Hollywood. Featuring over 6,000 white Akoya pearls, the gown is valued at $150,000. TMZ sources reveal that Lupita told police the dress was stolen sometime between 8 AM and 9 PM Tuesday while she was away form the room. The site also reports that there is security footage that police are now studying in hopes that they will "catch the culprit right in the act."

The 87th annual Oscars took place Sunday, February 22, 2015, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and were televised live on theABC Television Network. The Oscars, produced by Zadan and Meron, was also televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
