In celebration of Black History Month, TheGrio.com (www.thegrio.com) will unveil "TheGrio's 100: History Makers in the Making" on February 1, 2011. The exclusive list honors Black History Month by highlighting the next generation of African-American history makers and industry leaders who are making a difference in the lives of all Americans. The 100 individuals selected come from many different fields of work, including business, education, sports, science and the environment, media, service and activism, politics, health, pop culture, and the arts.
The "TheGrio's 100" will be profiled on all platforms of NBC News including "NBC Nightly News," "Today," MSNBC, CNBC, and msnbc.com starting the week of the launch, and will continue online and on MSNBC all month.
Beyond NBC News' broadcast and digital outlets, several social media platforms will also be engaged with "TheGrio's 100" initiative. TheGrio is working with foursquare, the location-based mobile application, to generate branded content and create a Black History "badge" that users can unlock by following TheGrio on foursquare and checking in at 100+ locations across the country that have been identified as historically relevant to black history. Fans can also check out more about "TheGrio's 100" on TheGrio's facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/theGrio and on Twitter @thegrio with hashtag #thegrios100.
