The Orpheum continues its exciting Fall film mini-series with KING KONG on Friday, September 6 at 7:00 PM. Handpicked by Orpheum President and CEO Pat Halloran, this 1933 version of the film will cost patrons only 50 cents per person as homage to the low ticket prices of that time period.
"This is our way of thanking the 12,000-plus people who supported our Summer Movie Series this year," said Halloran. "But we also wanted to take audiences back to the 'old Hollywood' that this movie represents. Our guests will have an almost unheard-of opportunity to watch a 1933 classic in a 1928 theatre at mid-1900's prices."
In the 1933 version of KING KONG, Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong) needs to finish his movie, and he has found the perfect location: Skull Island. His vision is nearly complete when he discovers his leading lady: Ann Darrow, played by Fay Wray. No one knows what they will encounter on this island or why it is so mysterious, but they will soon find out when a giant gorilla appears and takes Ann in its grasps. Carl along with Ann's new love, Jack Driscoll (Bruce Cabot), must travel through the jungle looking for Kong and Ann while avoiding the island's array of creatures and beasts.
Due to special pricing of 50 cents per person, tickets are cash only at the Orpheum Box Office in Downtown Memphis or at the ticket counter at the Booksellers at Laurelwood. Guests who do not purchase tickets in advance are encouraged to arrive early. Concessions will be available at regular Orpheum prices.
