The French Institute Alliance Française today announces two film series kicking off its fall CinéSalon screenings:

BRILLANT QUIRKY: JEANNE BALIBAR ON FILM

Opening the CinéSalon season on September 11 and running through October 30, Brilliant Quirky: Jeanne Balibar on Film features rare screenings, a sneak preview of Balibar's César-winning performance in the 2017 film Barbara, and talks with the noted actress whose unconventional beauty, exquisite voice, playfulness, and keen intellect have inspired French auteurs including Jacques Rivette, Raúl Ruiz, Mathieu Amalric, and Arnaud Desplechin.

CLASSICS OF FRENCH CINEMA WITH OLIVIER BARROT

Building on last spring's inaugural lineup, Classics of French Cinema presents a pair of films that showcase the richness of French filmmaking: Jean-Pierre Melville's L'Armée des ombres (Army of Shadows) (1969), a belatedly recognized masterpiece about the French Resistance on September 25; and Jacques Tati's Mon Oncle (1958), winner of that year's Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, on December 11. In conjunction with the screenings, Barrot, an influential journalist, author, and television personality, will share his insights into each film during complimentary 30-minute talks between the 4pm and 7:30pm showings.

About Cine?Salon

Screenings are held on Tuesdays at 4pm and 7:30pm in Florence Gould Hall (55 East 59th Street) for all of the films. Complementary wine and beer are served following each screening.
