VERONICA MARS is returning to The CW.
According to Deadline, the network has ordered a digital spin-off series in anticipation of Rob Thomas' crowd-funded film, ahead of its limited theatrical release on March 14.
"He is very excited about it," CW president Mark Pedowitz said today at the network's TCA event of Thomas, who will begin developing the project for CW Seed online.
With the resurgence of MARS, and since The "CW Seed is designed as an incubator that may birth shows that could transition to TV, it is not out of the question to see Veronica Mars back in primetime," according to the report.
Directed by Thomas and written by both him and Diane Ruggiero, 'MARS' stars Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Chris Lowell, Ryan Hansen, Krysten Ritter, Percy Daggs III, Tina Majorino, Francis Capra, Ken Marino and Enrico Colantoni.
In the film, Veronica has put Neptune and her amateur sleuthing days behind her on the eve of graduating law school. While interviewing at high-end law firms, Veronica gets a call from her ex-boyfriend Logan who has been accused of murder. Veronica heads back to Neptune just to help Logan find an attorney, but when things don't seem right with how Logan's case is perceived and handled, Veronica finds herself being pulled back into a life she thought she had left behind. The film is set to premiere at this year's South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas.
