Boosted by "America's Funniest Home Videos" and the "2016 American Music Awards" against NFL-driven competition, ABC hit new season highs on Sunday night with Total Viewers (7.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.1/6).
Surging week to week by 2.3 million viewers (6.8 million vs. 4.5 million) and by 38% in Adults 18-49 (1.1/4 vs. 0.8/2), ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" delivered season highson both Nielsen measures.
Up against big NFL-fueled competition on the evening, including NBC's
SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL (Packers-Redskins) and an NFL overrun-boosted
CBS (Eagles-Seahawks), the "2016 American Music Awards" made
ABC the entertainment leader from 8:00-11:00 p.m. in Adults 18-49 (2.4/7). Excluding only the "Emmy Awards" in September, the "2016 AMAs" scored ABC's strongest entertainment numbers in the time slot in 6 monthswith viewers (8.2 million) and young adults (2.4/7) - since the "Billboard Music Awards" on 5/20/16.
A note about DVR penetration: DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample is currently at 49% in U.S. TV Homes. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which are increasingly not reflected in the overnight Live + Same Day numbers. As a result, the Live + 7 Day ratings are the most accurate measure to gauge the size of the TV audience.
