Almost a month after assuming the leadership of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, or FIFA, Gianni Infantino chose Telemundo for his first one-on-one interview with the international news media. The extensive interview, divided in long form bites, will air this week on TELEMUNDO's "Un Nuevo Día," "Al Rojo Vivo," "Noticiero Telemundo" and "Titulares y Más." Portions will also be featured during the broadcast of the Honduras-El Salvador World Cup qualifying match on "Rumbo al Mundial," tonight at 9PM/8C/6P on NBC UNIVERSO, and this weekend on "Titulares Telemundo." The complete interview will be available on NBCDeportes.com digital platforms.
In his broad conversation with acclaimed network sportscaster Andrés Cantor undertaken in Paraguay, the new FIFA president describes his first findings found upon taking office and outlines his goals for his term, chief among them restoring soccer fans' trust in the organization: "Things need to change," the Swiss official tells Cantor. "We need to implement reforms and focus on bringing a new democratic reality to FIFA." A main topic of discussion in the interview is the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar. "There is no Plan B. I cannot change a decision that was taken in the past," Infantino replies to questions from Cantor. More broadly, the FIFA president comments on the challenges of managing a tournament that convenes 40 teams from around the world and expresses his support for making the World Cup a binational event, as it was in 2002, when Japan and Korea co-hosted the games.Videos
