Telemundo announced today the kickoff of its multiplatform initiative encouraging Hispanics to get out to vote as part of its #YoDecido campaign, a one-of-a-kind effort to inform and empower Hispanic voters nationwide. Given that Latino registered voters are less likely than all registered voters to say they will vote in this year's election (69% vs 86%), according to a recent Pew Research Center study, the initiative encourages U.S. Hispanics to exercise their civic right to vote and informs Latinos on the candidates' position on key issues, the election and voting process, location of polling stations and much more.
"As part of our mission to inform and empower our community, we are excited to enter the final phase of our Yo Decido campaign, which encourages millions of registered voters to exercise their civic right to vote," said Cesar Conde, Chairman, NBCUniversal International Group and
Telemundo Enterprises.
As voter registration comes to a close,
Telemundo wraps up an extensive voter registration effort across the country.
Telemundo stations and partner organizations (Voto Latino and Mi Familia Vota) have held multiple voter registration drives. The network joined forces with Voto Latino and Mi Familia Vota for this year's Hispanic Heritage Month of Action (HHMA). HHMA is a national voter registration campaign, powered by the efforts of many Latino sister organizations, that helps shift behaviors for American Latinos from simply celebrating our culture to building our political power. In addition,
Telemundo collaborated with NCLR on a national Latino Voter Summit and a PSA urging Latinos to become voters and giving them tools to do so, and with TurboVote for a voter registration tool on www.telemundo.com, making getting registered easy.
