Telemundo Deportes' simulcast of the FIFA World Cup qualifier match between Mexico and El Salvador, which aired on Friday, Sept. 2 at 9:55PM ET on Telemundo Network and NBC UNIVERSO, delivered 1.6 million adults 18 to 49 ranking as the #1 program in broadcast and cable TV for Friday night, regardless of language, according to Nielsen. The match also delivered 2.8 million total viewers and reached a cumulative audience of nearly 5 million viewers.
Viewers in Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas flocked to watch Mexico beat Salvador 3 to 1 positioning the match as the #1 show in its time slot regardless of language in those markets in both total viewers and adults 18 to 49. The match was also # 1 regardless of language among adults 18 to 49 in New York, San Francisco and Sacramento in its time slot.
Telemundo Deportes owns the U.S. broadcast and online rights in Spanish-language to the FIFA World Cup®, across all platforms (except radio) through 2022 and the qualifying matches played away by the Mexican national team for Russia 2018.
