Tony Award winner Idina Menzel has been a recurring guest star on GLEE, with several more appearances on the hit show slated for the upcoming season; will one of them include her thespian husband, Taye Diggs?
If they have their way, Menzel tells Zap2it, then it just may happen. "I'm always subtly lobbying for it to happen," she says, "He would love that...I'm sure I would love it, too. My husband's actually a song and dance man. People don't know that. He's got his Broadway chops."
Diggs played Benny in the original cast of RENT. He later went on to star in the feature film with other original cast members Jesse L. Martin, Adam Pascal, Wilson Jermaine Heredia and Anthony Rapp, alongside Menzel. That same year, Diggs scored rave reviews for his portrayal of Captain Davenport in "A Soldier's Play" for which he earned a nomination for ‘Distinguished Performance' from the Drama League.
Diggs has also appeared in WICKED, CHICAGO, and off-Broadway's THE WILD PARTY as well as films which included "Chicago," "Brown Sugar," "Equilibrium," and "Basic," opposite Samuel J. Jackson and John Travolta. Earlier films, equally applauded, included "The Way of the Gun," starring Benicio Del Toro, "The Wood," "The Best Man," and "Just a Kiss," co-starring with Marisa Tomei and Kyra Sedgwick.
GLEE, the genre-defying new musical comedy series, follows an optimistic teacher who - against all odds and a malicious cheerleading coach - attempts to save McKinley High's Glee Club from obscurity while helping a group of aspiring underdogs realize their true star potential. Starring Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Jessalyn Gilsig, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley, Mark Salling and Jenna Ushkowitz, GLEE is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century Fox Television. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series. Murphy, Falchuk and Dante di Loreto serve as executive producers, while Ian Brennan serves as co-executive producer.
The series airs on FOX on Tuesdays - including tonight, when Menzel makes her return to the series as Rachel (Lea Michele)'s mother Shelby.
