Sidney Poitier's "To Sir, With Love," the story of an idealistic engineer who takes a teaching job and faces a group of rough and disorderly white high school students from London's East End will air as the culmination of American Graduate Day on Saturday, September 22 at 9 p.m. on Reel 13.
American Graduate Day is a national broadcast and outreach event on Saturday, September 22, from 1-8 pm, dedicated to engaging our country around the dropout crisis. Broadcast nationally from the Tisch WNET Studios at Lincoln Center, the seven-hour special highlights Community Partners, educators and youth to help keep at-risk students in school. Hosts include PBS NewsHour's Ray Suarez, ABC News correspondent Juju Chang, and Need to Know anchor Maria Hinojosa, among others.
James Clavell wrote the screenplay for and directed the film based on E.R. Braithwaite's novel. Patricia Routledge from "Keeping Up Appearances" makes an appearance, along with cast members Judy Geeson, ChristIan Roberts, Suzy Kendall, and Lulu, who sang the movie's popular theme song.
Every Saturday night beginning at 9 p.m., viewers can catch a Classic hosted by film historian Neal Gabler, followed by an Indie, hosted by Richard Peña.
The evening concludes with a Short selected by visitors to Reel13.org who vote for their favorite of three shorts every week.
