The Library of Congress has announced its annual list of the 25 movies it has added to the National Film Registry. The list features title deemed to have "cultural, historic and/or aesthetic importance" to American heritage. Among this year's entries are DIE HARD, THE GOONIES and the James Cameron's blockbuster TITANIC.
Also on the list is 1939 ONLY ANGELS HAVE WINGS, Elia Kazan's GENTLEMAN'S AGREEMENT, 1967's GUEST WHO'S COMING TO DINNER and the 1989 baseball fame FIELD OF DREAMS. The list also included two animated films; 1941's DUMBO, from Disney Studios, and THE SINKING OF THE LUSITANIA, a short propaganda film from 1918.
Director Richard Donner, who has two films on the list, THE GOONIES and SUPERMAN, commented, "They are both special films in my life, as was the cast and crew for both. It's wonderful to see them listed among so many great films."
