Nina Dobrev has joined coming-of-age drama ARRIVALS, with Asa Butterfield and Maisie Williams. BCDF Pictures and Kalahari Film & Media are producing. Shooting begins in South AFRICA this winter with Peter Hutchings (THE OUTSKIRTS) directing from a screenplay written by Fergal Rock.
"I'm thrilled to have an actress as talented and passionate as Nina join Asa and Maisie to bring this special project to life," commented Hutchings.
Dobrev plays Izzy, an American flight attendant and the love interest of Butterfield's character, Calvin. Calvin is an American hypochondriac who has dropped out of college and is working as a BAGGAGE handler at the Cape Town airport. He's forced to confront his fears when Skye (Williams), an unconventional British teenager with a terminal illness, enlists him to help her carry out her eccentric bucket list.
The ARRIVALS screenplay was a 2013 Academy Nicholl Semifinalist.
Dobrev recently wrapped a six-season run as the lead on the CW's hit series THE VAMPIRE DIARIES. She has appeared in films including THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER, LET'S BE COPS, and Atom Egoyan's CHLOE, and will next be seen in Sony Pictures' comedy-horror THE FINAL GIRLS, opening October 9th.
ARRIVALS was developed by BCDF Pictures, who are also producing YA bestseller "Stargirl" with Catherine Hardwicke directing. BCDF also has high school comedy "The Outskirts" scheduled for wide release, which Hutchings directed. The company is best known for the female comedy hit "Bachelorette" with Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan and Isla Fisher. They have been developing a wide range of new projects, with an eye toward bigger, more studio-friendly films.
Kalahari is one of South Africa's leading production companies. They have serviced a wide range of films, including DISTRICT 9, DREDD, and the TV series SAF3.
Dobrev is repped by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, and Hansen Jacobson Teller Hoberman Newman Warren Richman Rush & Kaller.
