"The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and "Late Night with Seth Meyers" have scored dominant wins for the late-night ratings week of Aug. 18-22, with Fallon beating his broadcast competition in every key measure and Meyers encores winning in adults 18-49 versus both his time-period competition and CBS's first-run "Late Show with David Letterman," which starts an hour earlier than "Late Night."
Fallon averaged a 1.00 rating in adults 18-49 and 3.6 million viewers overall for the week and led the competition of CBS's "Late Show" and ABC's encores of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in all key categories - adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers. Note that Letterman's Friday telecast, an encore, was delayed by an NFL overrun and is excluded from these averages.
At 12:35 a.m. ET, a 0.46 rating in adults 18-49 for Meyers' rebroadcasts topped a 0.42 for Letterman's originals. In the 12:35-1:35 a.m. time period, the "Late Night" encores also delivered bigger audiences than Ferguson's rebroadcasts in every key ratings measure. Additionally, they beat ABC's original "Nightline" in their head-to-head half-hour from 12:30-1 a.m. in all key categories. Ferguson's Friday telecast was excluded due to a football overrun.
At 1:35 a.m. ET, rebroadcasts of "Last Call with Carson Daly" out-rated CBS's "Late Late Show" encores (with a 0.26 rating vs. a 0.23). Versus the same week last year, "Last Call" was up +18% in 18-49 rating (to a 0.26 from a 0.22) and up +10% in total viewers (766,000 vs. 698,000).
