The most comprehensive collection of signature costumes from The Sound of Music went up for auction and sold for a total of $1.3 million (£846,000).
The Sound of Music is the most successful movie musical in history which spawned some of the most beloved songs in the American songbook, including "Edelweiss", "Do-Re-Mi", "Sixteen Going on 17", and "My Favorite Things."
Julie Andrews signature "Maria" dress worn when she sings "Do-Re-Mi" to the Von Trapp children . This signature costume was worn by Julie Andrews when she took the children on a day trip and they sang the popular "Do-Re-Mi" number. Consisting of a heavy brown homespun Austrian-style dress with wheat-colored homespun blouse. The costume features 20th Century-Fox bias labels in internal collar and waistband.
