According to the LA Times, Warner Bros. Studios is currently looking into the possibility of a prequel to THE SHINING, the 1980 horror film from director Stanley Kubrick. The thriller is considered by many to be the scariest movie of all time.
Hollywood writer-producer Laeta Kalogridis and her partners Bradley Fischer and James Vanderbilt have been approached by Warner Bros. to become involved in the project. The studio insists that the project is in the "very early stage and not even formally in development."
The prequel would follow "what happened before Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), his wife and their psychic son arrived at the haunted retreat where Torrance soon descends into violent madness."
THE SHINING was based on author Stephen King’s best-selling 1977 novel. The film was recently featured in "Room 237", a documentary about Kubrick's films which played at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. King, meanwhile, has been busy writing a sequel to "The Shining." No details yet as to whether the book will be adapted to the big screen.
