With episodes spanning from 1969 to 1995, THE DICK CAVETT SHOW on DECADES Network will feature a remarkable and compelling collection of guests, many of whom appeared first or only on his show, including newsmakers, athletes, entertainers and others. THE DICK CAVETT SHOW's enduring mix of the newsworthy and the entertaining will complement the DECADES Network and its unique and relevant daily historic and thematic style of programming.
"This is very good news to me. I'm thrilled. And it'll be delightful for all those people who constantly ask me, "Is there any way we can ever see those shows again?" Now they can. And I can. That may sound funny, but many times when I was just too tired or had to go somewhere when the show aired, I missed it. Now I can catch up with myself," said Dick Cavett.
"Adding Dick Cavett's sophisticated, in-depth interviews to the DECADES Network enhances the overall uniqueness of our programming," said Neal Sabin, Vice Chairman of Weigel Broadcasting Co. "Watching Dick interact with Groucho Marx, Lucille Ball, David Bowie and countless others is fascinating television. THE DICK CAVETT SHOW is a welcome addition to our schedule which includes Through the Decades, a daily original first-run news and pop culture program hosted by Bill Kurtis."
"THE DICK CAVETT SHOW is still the standard-bearer for thoughtful, witty interviews with celebrities from the arts to politics, with hilarious storytelling and iconic performances. We are delighted that DECADES Network will be the broadcast destination for this enduring and enormously entertaining show," stated Shout! Factory's founders Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos.
"DECADES Network has proven to be a terrific broadcast partner for many popular classic TV hits. Dick Cavett is one of the most venerable talk show hosts in television history and his show is timeless with a broad audience appeal. We look forward to building a great relationship with Decades," said Mark Balsam of Shout! Factory's worldwide broadcast distribution.
Dick Cavett has been a television legend that brought wit and wisdom to late night television. Spanning five decades, Dick Cavett's television career has defined excellence in the interview format. He started at ABC in the late 1960's, and also enjoyed success on PBS, USA, and CNBC.
Cavett landed his big break in 1968 as host of This Morning, a daytime talk show that was renamed THE DICK CAVETT SHOW before moving to a prime time berth for the summer of 1969 and a late-night slot later that same year. When Cavett joined the late-night talk show parade, his intelligent wit pumped a much-needed breath of fresh air into the format. The show offered guests a forum for controversial opinions and didn't shy away from an occasional debate on topical issues of the time.
In 2015, Shout! Factory has acquired the domestic distribution rights to all episodes of THE DICK CAVETT SHOW from Cavett's Daphne Productions for distribution in North America. Robert Bader of Daphne Productions notes that the entire archive of more than 2,500 shows is presently being restored and archived with the help of the Library of Congress. Bader said, "We're very pleased to see the results of this exhaustive projective made available to television viewers."
Beginning in May 2015, the DECADES multicast network launched on the digital sub-channels of the CBS Television Stations and other broadcast groups. The network is currently available in 53% of the country. DECADES features a unique "daily time capsule" schedule that is different each day, exploring different years, trends, events or themes. Programming includes the original one-hour daily series Through the Decades, hosted by award-winning journalist Bill Kurtis, as well as documentaries, popular TV shows and films chosen to immerse viewers in that day's DECADES context. Programmed as a six-hour block, the schedule repeats four times each weekday, giving viewers in all time zones multiple opportunities to tune in.
