THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY Tops THOR: THE DARK WORLD at Friday Box Office, Aims for $30M Debut

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Malcolm D. Lee's seasonal comedy THE BEST MAN HOLIDAY beat THOR: THE DARK WORLD at Friday's box office by a hair, though BEST MAN HOLIDAY's top spot will likely be short-lived.

THOR 2 brought in $10.5 million for its second Friday takings and is aiming for over $35 million this weekend, which would bring its global sales near $450 million.

BEST MAN HOLIDAY is dancing toward $30 million in its debut weekend; The Comedy was originally projected to bring in $20 million. The sequel is doing better than the first film, which opened to $9 million in 1999. Check out BWW's review roundup for BEST MAN HOLIDAY here.

In the movie, after nearly 15 years apart, Morris Chestnut (Identity Thief), Taye Diggs (Baggage Claim), Regina Hall (Scary Movie franchise), Terrence Howard (Hustle & Flow), Sanaa Lathan (Contagion), Nia Long (Soul Food), Harold Perrineau (Zero Dark Thirty), Monica Calhoun (Love & Basketball) and Melissa De Sousa (Miss Congeniality) reprise their career-launching roles in The Best Man Holiday, the long-awaited next chapter to the film that ushered in a new era of comedy. When the college friends finally reunite over the Christmas holidays, they will discover just how easy it is for long-forgotten rivalries and romances to be ignited.

Also opening this weekend in select theaters are Alexander Payne's NEBRASKA, starring Bruce Dern and Will Forte for Paramount, and CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN, with Shia LaBeouf and Evan Rachel Wood.

It's a slow weekend leading up to the debut of Lionsgate's THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, which is expected to open to a whopping $170 million in the U.S. BWW will be sure to bring you the numbers next weekend!
