Susan Boyle Featured in The NY Times

The New York Times is weighing in on YouTube Sensation Susan Boyle. Boyle has over 34 million fans on the media sharing site.

The Times writes, "Miss Boyle is unmarried (and unkissed, she told the program), has no job, lives with her cat and has until now sung mostly in her local church. But she has become a heroine not only to people dreaming of being catapulted from obscurity to fame but also to those who cheer her triumph over looks-ism and ageism in a world that so values youth and beauty".

Boyle has won international stardom and world-wide affection for her earlier stunning performance of "I Dreamed A Dream" from Les Miserables. 

Her emotional performance even touched 'Les Miz' impresario Cameron Mackintosh. The musical theatre legend remarked in a statement that, "Just like the judges and audience I was gob-smacked by the emotional powerhouse performance of Susan Boyle's show stopping rendition of 'I Dreamed a Dream.' Vocally it is one of the best versions of the song I've ever heard. Touching, thrilling and uplifting".

Boyle, an unemployed woman who's "nearly 48," talked about her cat, and joked around with the judges, noting that she had "never been kissed." She revealed her dreams of being a singer and compared herself to beloved British musical theater star Elaine Paige.

The entire audience prepared for the worst as she began her song, but, once she starting singing the crowd and judges were transported by her emotional and theatrical take on the number!

Whistle Down the Wind has been described by some as Andrew Lloyd Webber's best musical since The Phantom of the Opera. Britain's Got Talent press notes describe the show's concept as follows, "a nationwide talent contest where the winner gets to perform their act for Prince Charles at the prestigious Royal Variety Show, pick up a cheque for £100,000, and catapult themselves towards superstardom.

They may bicker, they may snigger... but their manicured hands are always wickedly poised by their buzzers to puncture long-held ambitions in a splice. Each auditionee takes to the stage hoping that their act will be the one to delight.
