Director Woody Allen has found a replacement for Bruce Willis in his upcoming ensemble film. The Hollywood Reporter writes that Steve Carell will fill the MISERY actor's shoes, after Willis was forced to drop out of the movie due to his jam-packed Broadway schedule (though some reports say Willis was fired from the project).
The all-star cast for Allen's untitled film, set to begin production later this month on location in New York and Los Angeles, includes: Jeannie Berlin (supporting actress Oscar nominee for The Heartbreak Kid), Jesse Eisenberg, Blake Lively, Parker Posey, Kristen Stewart, Corey Stoll and Ken Stott. Co-stars are Anna Camp, Stephen Kunken, Sari Lennick and Paul Schneider.
Allen returns to New York City for the new film. In the past, he has shunned the Big Apple due to the city's prohibitive expense and instead, shot his projects in Rhode Island (Irrational Man), France and the U.K. (Magic in the Moonlight), San Francisco (Blue Jasmine) and Paris (Midnight in Paris). The director has not filmed in LA since 1977's Annie Hall.
Carell recently voiced the role of 'Gru' in MINIONS and has BATTLE OF THE SEXES, ACME, FREEHOLD and THE BIG SHORT in the queue. Best known as 'Michael Scott' from the long-running TV comedy THE OFFICE, his other recent screen credits are ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY, FOXCATCHER and ANCHORMAN 2.
