People.com reports that funnyman Stephen Colbert will be returning to his TV show THE COLBERT REPORT today. The host took a brief hiatus last week reportedly to be with his 91-year-old mother, Lorna, who was facing a health crisis.

New episodes of the show will begin today with a guest appearance by Nancy Pelosi, minority leader of the House of Representatives. Other upcoming guests on the show will include Parnassus Books owner Ann Patchett, who will discuss independent bookstores, Robert Kagan, author of The World America Made, and opera star Placido Domingo.

On his Twitter account, Colbert thanked fans for their understanding and support during the past several days, posting, "My family and I would like to thank everyone who has offered their thoughts and prayers. We are grateful and touched by your concern."

During last weeks brief hiatus, Comedy Central had aired repeat episodes of the show. They initially explained the scheduling change on "unforeseen circumstances." A source close to the family told the New York Post last week, "They are a very private family. It's not surprising that he did not want anyone to know what was going on."
