Deadline reports that Stephen Colbert, the cast of ABC's 'Modern Family' and Rob Lowe will join a growing list of celebrities who will pinch hit for GOOD MORNING AMERICA news anchor Robin Roberts while she is on medical leave.
GMA's senior executive producer Tom Cibrowski revealed that the cast of 'Modern Family' will take their turn as co-host individually. They will be featured in the morning show's second hour alongside the regular GMA crew which includes George Stephanopoulos, Josh Elliott, Lara Spencer and Amy Robach.
“It shows them in a different light for a little bit and you get to see them do something different,” said Cibrowski of the Modern Family cast. “It might be a little funny if they have to read the prompter and there’s some slip-up. It’s all spontaneous.”
Roberts began her medical leave on August 30 in order to be treated for MDS, a rare blood and bone marrow disease. She is scheduled to undergo a bone marrow transplant this week.
