At the conclusion of her 2006 award-winning short documentary "Bushwick Homecomings" Stefanie Joshua said that "only time will tell" what the future would hold for the rapidly changing neighborhood. Now, over a decade later the Brooklyn-born filmmaker returned to her native Bushwick and the result - "BUSHWICK HOMECOMINGS: The Record" will be screened on Sunday, October 14, 2018 as part of the 11th Annual Bushwick Film Festival. Scheduled for 3:30pm the screening will take place at The Syndicated Bar Theater Kitchen, located at 40 Bogart St in Brooklyn. ("L" train to Morgan Avenue) Tickets are $9 in advance, $13 at the door and to make reservations and for additional information, go to: https://www.bushwickfilmfestival.com/

With BH:TR Joshua - who received degrees from Brooklyn Tech High School and Brooklyn College - continues her twenty-year overview of changes and rapid development in the nabe. The 96-minute film touches upon the tensions that arise when a community is in the midst of development, gentrification and change and when identities such as race, ethnicity and socioeconomic barriers come to the fore. It features author Alan Ehrenhalt and highlights three powerful Bushwick native-born figures in the arts: writer- Vanessa Martir; visual artist- Danielle DeJesus; and musician- DJ Evil Dee. The original 38-minute documentary which examined the changes in the Brooklyn neighborhood through the eyes of five local residents was created by Stefanie as part of her Master's thesis while she was enrolled at City College New York. The film appeared in several national and international film festivals and was presented on Black Entertainment Television and The Documentary Channel.

"So much has changed, not just in Bushwick, but in the world in the last ten or fifteen years since the original film was made. I'm excited to bring this project to the community, because at its heart, the film is meant to provoke positive dialog and a sharing of experiences and thoughts," says Joshua. "In absence of that dialog, it is somewhat incomplete for me as the filmmaker,"she added.

The 11th Annual Bushwick Film Festival is scheduled for October 10-14, 2018. Founded in 2007, The (BFF) is a leading independent film and media company in Brooklyn. The festival is hailed as one of Brooklyn's most influential cinematic events for its contribution to the borough's artistic, cultural, and economic growth. The festival attracts film and entertainment industry leaders at national and international levels; and showcases films created by the best and most diverse emerging independent filmmakers in Brooklyn and worldwide.
