Winter is not coming until 2019. Sorry GAME OF THRONES fans, but you are going to have wait a little bit longer for next season. Star of the HBO drama Sophie Turner confirmed to Variety that the eighth and final season will premiere in 2019.
This 2019 premiere date marks the first time GAME OF THRONES has not aired a new season in successive years. Turner, currently on set shooting the final season of the beloved fantasy show, spoke about where her character, Sansa Stark, lies in the next installment.
"It's going to be tricky for her, because at the end of last season, she felt that she had everything set up. She had her family back together. They were in control of the North again. This season, there's a new threat, and all of a sudden she finds herself somewhat back in the deep end. And without Littlefinger, it's a test for her of whether she can get through it. It's a big challenge for her, without this master manipulator having her back. This season is more a passionate fight for her than a political, manipulative kind of fight," she said.
GAME OF THRONES has previously confirmed that their final season will feature six feature length episodes.
Based on the bestselling fantasy book series by George R.R. Martin, HBO's Emmy®- and Golden Globe-winning series GAME OF THRONES is an epic story of treachery and nobility set on the continent of Westeros, where summers and winters can last years, and only the lust for power is eternal.
