Sony Pictures to Produce SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH

As first reported on Deadline.com, Sony Pictures is planning a full length feature film version of Archie Comic's SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH. According to the report, the title character will now be portrayed as a superhero.  The live action film will tell the story of how the young girl came to discover her "remarkable powers". 

AnDrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari (Die In A Gunfight) will pen the script, and Real Steel producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford will produce. Mark Waters, is under consideration to direct.  Archie Comics’ Jon Goldwater will executive producer along with Jeff Stockwell.

SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH has had several incarnations including an array of TV series in 1969, 1971 and most recently, in 1999 in a version starring Melissa Joan Hart that ran for seven seasons. Salem, Sabrina's talking black cat, is expected to appear in the upcoming film.

Commented producers Murphy and Montford, “We mentioned it in a meeting to Amy Pascal who chimed in “I’m the little witch girl'. From then on we knew it was the right home.”
