Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the North American rights to Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's NEVER LOOK AWAY, according to Variety. Sony Pictures Classics also acquired the distribution rights in several other territories, including Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and Scandinavia.
"Never Look Away" spans three turbulent periods of German history, as it follows an artist (Tom Schilling) who is haunted by experiences growing up in the Nazi years and during the Soviet-backed German Democratic Republic. He uses his paintings to come to terms with his childhood trauma.
NEVER LOOK AWAY is set to premiere at the Venice International Film Festival and will be featured at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Sony Pictures Classics did not disclose the financial terms of the deal or say when the picture will hit theaters.
