It is the biggest snake to have ever roamed the planet, and it is coming to New York City. Titanoboa is 48' long, dates to the Paleocene epoch more than 60 million years ago, and can be seen for the first time since then on March 22-23 in New York's Grand Central Terminal.

The life-size replica of Titanoboa is going on display at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History on March 30, but before it gets settled in at its new home in Washington D.C., the monster snake is visiting New York City for two days.

On April 1st, Smithsonian Channel premieres a new documentary, TITANOBOA: MONSTER SNAKE, which takes an in-depth look at the process of discovery and reconstruction of this prehistoric giant snake.

The startling discovery of Titanoboa was made by a team of scientists working in one of the world's largest open-pit coal mines at Cerrejon in La Guajira, Colombia.  This 2,500 pound, 48 foot long prehistoric snake was found near fossilized plants, giant turtles and crocodiles dating back to the Paleocene epoch. This was when the world's first known rainforest existed, and dinosaurs no longer ruled the earth.

To celebrate this paleontological treasure, Smithsonian Channel is hosting an event at Grand Central Terminal on March 22-23 where a life sized Titanoboa replica will be unveiled for all of New York and the world to see.

Smithsonian Channel has also brought back the classic video game "Snake," which can be played on a monster-sized screen at Grand Central Terminal on March 22-23.  The person with the highest score on each day will win a cash prize of $1,000.

The Titanoboa Monster Snake game can also be played online (at smithchan.com/monstersnake), on Smithsonian Channel's Facebook page and via a mobile app (iOS and Android). There is also on online sweepstakes component where adults 18 and older can enter for a random drawing for a chance to win $10,000 cash prize.

Smithsonian Channel is also utilizing augmented reality technology in print ads as well as posters that will be on display at Grand Central Terminal and the National Museum of Natural History. The ads and posters have instructions to download the Titanoboa Lives app -which can be used on iPhones, iPads and android mobile devices. Once the app is downloaded, a camera function is triggered on the device. When the device is moved across the print ads and posters, Titanoboa will essentially "come to life." Additionally, there are "hot points" that the user can click on to get fun facts about Titanoboa. The app will also include the trailer for TITANOBOA: MONSTER SNAKE.

TITANOBOA: MONSTER SNAKE can also be seen for free on Smithsonian Channel's website and on its mobile platforms beginning April 2.
